In Search of the Perfect Artwork
Finding an incredible artist to interpret music into visual art was something I KNEW I had to do for “Dare Me” . I love this song so much, and I want everyone to hear it. One of the best ways to catch someone’s attention and get them to listen to your song is to have eye-catching artwork (in theory, obviously I know nothing about this in practice since my #1 listener every month I’m pretty sure is still my mom). I wanted something to reflect the EPIC music video I have planned.
I just happen to know someone that makes EPIC art! Her name is Cora Jaeschke and I met her at my regular haunt, Black Diamond Cafe. It’s a coffee shop where, pre-Coronavirus, I used to sit for hours working on music, eating paninis, and ordering coffee and beer until I was pleasantly buzzed and useless at working anymore. Cora had art on the wall there that I was obsessed with, and eventually bought from her. I’ve attended an art show she presented and I don’t think I’ve ever seen a piece from her that I didn’t like. I wanted her to draw my band.
Here’s the story of Cora taking what I give her and making it amazing (spoilers, I’m a REALLY bad artist):
This is definitely the quick version of the story, because I went back and forth with Cora on changes SO MANY TIMES, and she was great. We worked hard to make sure each band member felt comfortable and confident in their portrayal. The general tone of the piece, how it’s muted and gray outside the painting, but vibrant and fire shades inside the painting, should evoke the music video PERFECTLY!
Everyone will have to wait until we can film the music video to see how it relates, but it will be directly referenced.
Cora will also being doing our EP cover art. I recommend you buy our vinyl, we’ll have to have this “Dare Me” artwork included there for sure!
